I had high hopes for the newest zombie movie from George Romero. However, in the aftermath of CLOVERFIELD, perhaps one of the best "shot-on-video" movies every made, this seemed far too staged and the style a bit tiresome after a while.
The premise is that a group of friends are out in the woods with their camper, making a horror movie for the filmmaker's thesis film and this gets interrupted by newscasts that the world is being over run by the dead.
What is impressive, and an improvement over LAND OF THE DEAD, are the CGI effects, such as when acid gets spilled on a zombie's head and we see it being slowly eaten away.
Otherwise, DIARY OF THE DEAD becomes "just another" zombie movie.
